The Power of 3

1

Posted by missdouglas | Posted in English | Posted on September 16, 2014

We have been learning about using the ‘Power of 3’ in our writing to make it more descriptive and to share our images and ideas more effectively.

We are aiming to paint a picture in the audience’s mind when they read our sentences.

Today the students looked a picture of three duckling to give them some inspiration.

Here are some of their sentences:

Natalie: The ducklings are cute, yellow and clean.

Yorke: The ducklings are fluffy, small and loud.

Eli: The ducklings are fluffy, soft and clean.

Jacqueline: The ducklings are stinky, noisy and loud.

Alicia: The ducklings are cute, fluffy and yellow.

Riley: The ducklings are yellow, loud and clean.

Nicholas: The ducklings are yellow, stinky and quacking.

Charli: The ducklings are clean, loud and small.

Can you write a ‘power of 3’ sentence about ducklings?

Today we had a dress rehearsal for our school concert and the students looked amazing in their costumes. They were a little nervous to begin with but really enjoyed themselves and performed well.

There are still tickets available for the day shows however the evening show has sold out. At 4pm today the ticket sales will open up for the day shows, so if you have any relatives or friends that would like to see the concert please let them know they can purchase tickets.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday and are very excited to perform for you!

Walkathon

Posted by missdouglas | Posted in Whole School | Posted on September 10, 2014

Yesterday we participated in the whole school Walkathon. We needed to walk 4 laps of the school (2.5km) and even though some of us got tired we kept going and completed every lap. We were very excited to receive our hacky sack prize and were eager to give it a go.

Don’t forget to start collecting money from your sponsors and return the money and form to school as soon as possible. All students who raise $10 or more will go into the draw for of the sports packs. Major prizes will also be drawn for students who raise over $20 (increasing by one ticket for each $10 bracket).

Major prizes are:

1st – An iPad mini

2nd  – A laptop computer

3rd – A Toy World voucher ($100)

Well done to everyone that participated!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Today Simone (our Pre Service Teacher) taught us all about the 3 R’s; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We learnt that we need to take care of our earth to make sure that people can survive in the future.

We looked at different types of rubbish and looked for the recycling logo (shown below) on the rubbish to know if we can recycle the rubbish or not.

Then we sorted pictures of rubbish into four bins – aluminium, paper, plastic and compost to show our understanding of recycling.

We discussed each of the pieces of rubbish and made sure they were in the correct bins. Below is an example of a completed poster.

Do you recycle and/or compost at home? Tell us about it.
